Kierlan Drache is mentioned several times in the previews of Strange Fate, the final book of the Night World series by L. J.Smith. He is implied to be a shapeshifter, and a friend to the book's protagonist, Sarah Strange. Recently, he has also been revealed to be the fourth and final Wild Power.
In the sneak preview found in the ultimate fan guide, Kierlan is described as having "dark red hair, tawny eyes, and [a] cheerful face". He is apparently very handsome, as two of Sarah's classmates discuss him actively.
In spite of Mal's comments of Kierlan being "an animal" and his surname of Drache, it is not known what animal form Kierlan possesses, though it has recently been stated to be a feline form.
Kierlan appears to be a mischievous young man, as Sarah and Mal Harman have been noted to have to keep Kierlan in check, particularly during parties; Sarah remarks that "everything was a joke to Kierlan". His antics have included flipping a girl's skirt in public, and, according to Sarah, had a certain girl in her class worn a white dress to a dance, Kierlan would likely have ruined it deliberately with punch. Ash Redfern, upon meeting him, also suspects Kierlan has a reputation for promiscuity going even beyond the lamia boy's own record.
Despite his notoriety, Kierlan is revealed to be especially bright in mathematics, taking classes at a nearby junior college. He also, with Mal, has a strong liking for Sarah, teasing her often but kindly, and being protective of her when Ash had requested the use of Thierry Descouedres's private helicopter from Sarah.
- Kierlan's name is a very unusual one, but appears to be Irish-Gaelic in origin, "Kier" meaning "dark" or "black".This ties to the prophecy of Kierlan being the fourth Wild Power ("One from the twilight to be one with the dark"). Combined with his surname, Kierlan's name nearly translates to "Black Dragon".
- It has recently been revealed that Kierlan is a cousin of the shapeshifter prince Galen Drache. However, it is not known if Kierlan is also considered a prince as well.
- Physically, Kierlan exhibits traits common to Redferns from Hunter Redfern's descent, but is not a member of the family.
