Nat is mentioned as being a friend of Thea Harman and is present at Circle Twilight's Samhain celebration for the younger members of the Circle. He attends dressed as the god of the hunt, Herne. Nat stands on Thea's right when the group starts casting their Samhain circle and looks at her, "dismayed", when Thea is summoned to the Inner Circle by Aunt Ursula and Nana Buruku.
Physical Appearance Edit
Nat is mentioned as wearing a "forest green" outfit and stag's antlers on his head to represent the Celtic god Herne.
- The name Nathaniel is the Greek form of the Hebrew Natan'el, meaning "God has given". If the Judeo-Christian God is included in the pantheon of gods worshipped by witches, then Nathaniel would be a traditional witch name.
- Nat's personal deity is Herne, the Celtic god of the hunt. Herne is believed to be derived from Cernunnos, the Celtic god of hunting and forests, who was often depicted with horns or antlers. Some believe that the myths and legends of Cernunnos gave rise to the folk tale of Herne the Hunter, a ghost or spirit with antlers on his head said to roam Windsor Forest. The first known literary mention of Herne was in William Shakespeare's play, The Merry Wives of Windsor.
